Cayuga County’s response rate to the 2020 Census is currently 57.8%, among the lowest in our region. We need as much help as we can get to increase Cayuga’s response rates because the 2020 Census response determines our federal funding and level of congressional representation for the next 10 years. This will impact infrastructure and workforce development spending in our community, as well as budgets for our schools, first responders, programs for housing, nutrition, veterans and drug programs, and so much more.
As you know, all of these things are important to your business and employees. As an employer, you can help to increase response rates by hosting a Census response team at your place of business, which would involve Census workers setting up a tent outside to answer questions and assist your employees with responding. You can also hang posters in your workplace, post a 2020 Census message on your website or social media, or send an email to your employees asking them to respond to the 2020 Census.
Anyone can continue to respond until September 30, 2020, by going to 2020Census.gov or calling 1-844-330-2020. It’s quick, simple, and safe.
