From exhilarating bike paths to music in the parks, there is something for everyone to enjoy in Cayuga County.

Water Recreation
Many recreational opportunities are offered by the abundance of waterways in Cayuga County and the region, including the Finger Lakes, the Great Lakes, the Erie Canal, and wild trout streams. Cayuga County has 12 miles of canal, from the Richmond Aqueduct in Montezuma to Lock 51 on the Onondaga/Cayuga County line. In fact, the county boasts more freshwater coastline than any other county in New York.  Located along these scenic coastlines are marinas, fishing charters, campgrounds, golf courses and upscale lodging and dining locations.

Outdoor Recreation
If you move inland, you’ll find many additional recreational assets. Some of the highlights include scenic bike paths, hiking trails, bird sanctuaries, and cross-country skiing and snowshoe trails. Also visit the Sterling Nature Center for educational experience, or take in a minor league baseball game at Falcon Park home of the Auburn Doubledays.

Wine Trails
Everyone from wine connoisseurs to casual tasters can enjoy a wine tour of the region’s award-winning wineries on the Cayuga Wine Trail. There are also a number of other wine trails in the Finger Lakes Region.

Theater
Cayuga County is home to an active theater scene, especially during the summer when the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival is in full swing. Merry-Go-Round Playhouse in Emerson Park on Owasco Lake, Auburn Public Theater in the heart of downtown Auburn, and the Carriage House Theater at Cayuga Museum each host a different type of musical, Broadway, Off Broadway and “still in the works”, as part of the four month festival. Each of these venues also provides year round activities, from comedy shows to statewide youth theater programs.

Culture, History & Heritage
Cayuga County is home to many historical sites, museums, and arts facilities. Some of these sites include the historic homes of William H. Seward and Harriet Tubman, historic churches, the Schweinfurth Memorial Arts Center, the birthplace of sound on film at Case Research Lab, agriculture museums, and historical societies that provide a wealth of local knowledge and history.
