This week is Economic Development Week (EDW).  Established by the International Economic Development Council, the goal of EDW is to increase awareness for local programs that create jobs, advance career development opportunities and increase the quality of life.

Throughout this week, we at the Cayuga Economic Development Agency (CEDA) will be sharing information via blog posts, social media and more about what economic development means for our community in Cayuga County.

CEDA is chartered to work as a “One Stop” business development service provider. This means bringing all of the economic development resources in Cayuga County under one roof so new, existing, and potential businesses have one point of contact to assist with start-up and expansion projects. This could mean anything from helping with a business plan, to connecting businesses with industry experts, to assisting with grant and financing applications. We are here to help your business grow.

However, to start, everyone can contribute to growing our economy simply by shopping at and purchasing from local businesses.  Many of the businesses in our community are family-owned, and some of the sales tax dollars from your purchase support local government.  In Cayuga County, 50% of the sales tax collected comes back to support our local communities. Make a pledge to shop local during EDW and every week!

Tomorrow, we will share some information about the history of economic development in our county.  Stay tuned!
