MFG Day is coming up on October 5, 2018, which is a day to celebrate and show off modern manufacturing and “inspire the next generation of manufacturers”. In anticipation of MFG Day, the Manufacturing Institute (the social impact arm of the National Association of Manufacturers) teamed up with PTC (an innovation and technology firm) to create a futuristic new app to shed some light on what modern manufacturing looks like. The app is an augmented reality platform that is used in conjunction with a printable comic book. According to the PTC website, students “… use the app and comic book to follow the story of superheroes manufacturing a drone. They’ll solve everyday challenges in manufacturing by making decisions about product design, retooling the factory, and performing service on a robot that is unexpectedly in need of repair.” They can also snap a screenshot of the “factory” to share with friends.
