CEDA has been informed by Cayuga County officials that 334 Cayuga County businesses have completed their affirmations and safety plans. Before reopening, all businesses in New York State are required to have completed two documents – a Safety Plan and the Affirmation document.

According to New York State, each business or entity must develop a written Safety Plan outlining how its workplace will prevent the spread of COVID-19. Business owners can find a fillable template here: https://www.governor.ny.gov/sites/governor.ny.gov/files/atoms/files/NYS_BusinessReopeningSafetyPlanTemplate.pdf While this plan does not need to be submitted to the State, businesses must have a copy available on-site that can be made available to the NYS Department of Health or local health or safety authorities in the event of an inspection.

Another key step is to complete the Affirmation, which confirms that you have read and understood your obligations to operate your business under the industry-specific public health and safety guidelines. The Affirmation for your specific industry can be found via the State’s online “New York Forward Business Reopening Lookup Tool“. In one of our “FAQs”, we provided a step-by-step walk-through on how to use this tool to complete reopening requirements for your business:
